During the attacks in Kabul on September 13, I was organizing a 9/11 commemmoration event at Babur's Garden. The event focused on the progress made in women's rights over the past decade, as well as mechanisms to sustain and build upon this progress in the next decade. We heard the first explosion as our moderator was finishing up her opening remarks. After the second, and much louder, explosion we relocated to a basement onsite and continued on with the panel discussion.
