View from the car, somewhere in downtown Kabul:
I went to a memorial service for a member of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission, who was recently killed. Lots of press coverage.
A few days ago we were allowed to go up to the rooftop of an Embassy apartment building to take pictures, since it had just snowed and the air was really clear. Beautiful views of the mountains and the city below.
This is the tomb of Mohammad Nadir Shah, who ruled Afghanistan from 1929 until his assassination in 1933. Also my camera lens was apparently dirty.
I think that's a picture of Massoud on the billboard, but I'm not sure.
This is the view from the other side of the Embassy. I think this picture is looking west, and the previous picture is east, but not quite sure. Regardless, we're surrounded by mountains. I have no idea who is portrayed on the sign.
U.S. helicopter, flying over houses built on the hillside.
Me, on the roof, with Kabul behind.
